When Alexandra was younger, she often struggled to make friends because of her shyness. However, like many know, getting a dog can change your life for the better. That was just the case with Alexandra. She got her first dog, named Gizmo, when she was 14 years old and she taught him some tricks.

We asked the Big Barker community what their top ten travel essentials are, and here are their answers.

Life sometimes throws terrible things at you but having friends who understand these struggles makes life easier. Just take Chloe, a 9-year-old Shih Tzu who was living in a terrible environment. Her previous owner wrapped her back paws to stop them from scratching which cut off her blood flow to her legs.

When Bryson Kliemann’s puppy, Bruce, got diagnosed with a dangerous viral infection, the 8 year old wanted to help. As a collector of Pokémon cards, Bryson knew the cards were selling out all over the country and their prices are soaring. To help his puppy, Bryson made the selfless choice to sell his cards to help with his dog’s medical bills.

After more than a year without any events, the Big Barker team was thrilled to be in the company of 30 K-9s and their handlers last week. We couldn't think of a better way to kick off summer than with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at the Elmwood Park Zoo for a very special donation event.

Losing a dog is one of the hardest things in life. After Steve lost his dog, he was heartbroken and didn’t think he would be able to recover from this terrible loss. After several months, Steve decided to bring another dog into his life. While visiting his local shelter, he asked which senior dog was the most “unadoptable” — and that’s who he took home!

Ronald is a sweet 3 month old basset hound with a silly personality. Unfortunately, as he grows up he has started to have trouble getting up into the couch. The answer? A ramp! After his owner Emily ordered his ramp, she taught Ronald how to go up and down the ramp. But Ronald had another idea.
