Dartrix's Sleepover

Dartrix spent months at Animal Control before making his way to the BVSPCA and he has been loving this much deserved respite.

His foster family takes him on long walks and hikes and then he naps to his heart's content. When he isn't relaxing or exploring, Dartrix has  been sharpening up his skills, including sit, heel, stay and leave it.

Sweet Dartrix doesn't deserve to be one of the BVSPCA's longest residents and we would love to see him go from his sleepover foster to a forever home.

He would thrive with an active family as the only fur-kid. If you're in the Philadelphia area and interested in meeting Dartrix, reach out to Adam Whisman at awhisman@bvspca.org.

Charlie's Sleepover

Charlie is having a great time and proving that age is just a number! He’s become fast friends with everyone, including his foster family's other dogs and cats. He loves going on walks and is easy on the leash. The BVSPCA rescued Charlie from a community where he was at risk of euthanasia, and although he came in listed as 12 years old…you’d never know it.

He's an easy going boy who loves just hanging out with his people. He's also been a perfect guest and has impeccable housetraining manners. Charlie hopes to go from his holiday sleepover to a forever family.

His foster family wants everyone to know Charlie would be a blessing to any home, they just aren't adopting right now so they can continue to accept fosters as needed.
Email Jackie Worktyo at jworytko@bvspca.org to set up a meet with Charlie!

Agatha's Christmas Miracle!

After losing their dog of 12 years back in August, Agatha's foster family decided to take part in Holiday Sleepovers. When they met Agatha and recognized similar mannerisms between her and their beloved dog, they decided to start her holiday sleepover early (12/15) with the possibility of adopting. We are so excited to share that they have chosen to make Agatha a part of their family and she has found her forever home!

“Since being here, she has some similar habits to him as well, and it’s been a nice reminder of him. Her favorite thing is to cuddle on the couch between us, cuddle on the bed between us, and smell all of the interesting smells of Philadelphia.”

We're so happy for you, Agatha!

Meet the Holiday Sleepover Dogs!

Here are a handful of the dogs making their way to their foster homes today!

BVSPCA Big Barker Holiday Sleepovers

Erie is shy at first to folks that she just meets but with some patience and some loving, she warms up to be a lovebug. Her favorite thing is to give kisses and she has a wigglebutt! She's pretty laid back and loves her nap time. Erie has not met any children yet but since she can get a little bit overwhelmed at first meet, we recommend a home with older children. She would do best as the only dog in the home. Erie is just three years old and hoping her best years are ahead.

Carson is a very friendly playful little dog. He loves toys and running around the yard. This super silly goofball will make you laugh. He is very smart, and has high energy. He will need an active family to keep him busy. He loves treats and to be pet and is very affectionate and loving. Carson is a ladies man who would do best as the only furkid, or with a social, and playful female, but he would be open to meeting other dogs. this 3-year-old feels most comfortable with older children.

Dartrix is a big boy, with a big personality, and a staff favorite. This handsome boy lives for his ball! He enjoys going for walks and sniffing his surroundings. He loves treats and back rubs. Rolling around in a sunny yard is another delight.. He is loving to his people and enjoys soft places to cuddle up. This 6-year-old is not a fan of cats and would do best as the only fur kid in a home with older children.

Agatha may come off as shy at first, but once she warms up to you, she is a ball of fun. She has a mega-watt smile and a tail that wags in circles like a propeller - pretty adorable! To add to the cuteness, when you give her butt scritchies, she wiggles around in excitement. Agatha enjoys exploring all the smells outside and walks politely on leash. Agatha would do best in a home with older since she can be nervous at first meet. Agatha is just four years old and can't wait to have the time of her life with a family.

Blue Belle's owners fell on hard times, and they were unable to keep her. She is a sweet, affectionate girl with a gentle and dainty play style. She is open to meeting other calm dogs, but she'd like the opportunity to meet them before making a commitment. Blue Belle enjoys snuggling, long walks and treats. And, when you give her a squeaky toy, she turns into a playful puppy! Blue Belle has done well with the children she has met at the shelter. This special girl would love nothing more than to spend her days curled up with someone who will love her for the rest of her life. She's 7 years old and ready for the second half of her life to be her best half.

Beautiful Queen is a sweet, loving girl who adores being with people. Her favorite pastime is running around the yard with a squeaky toy in her mouth. Being royalty, this diva would like to be the only fur-dog in her palace, but she'll more than make up for it with loyalty and affection for her family. This 4-year-old knows basic commands - sit, paw, and drop it. She is very treat motivated and prefers no cats among her royal subjects please.

“They might be a little older, they might want to be an only pet, or they may be stressed in the kennels and not show their best,” shelter officials said in a statement, but “they’re all deserving of love.” - Linda Torelli, BVSPCA

December 8th, 2020

It’s the best time of the year because Holiday Sleepovers are back! The Brandywine Valley SPCA is putting the spotlight on the most overlooked dogs in their shelter this holiday season. Although these pups may be a little older, may need to be an only pet, or may be scared in the shelter, Big Barker and the BVSPCA believe that all dogs are deserving of love over the holidays.

This year the BVSPCA is looking for families to welcome these dogs as fosters from 12/24 to 1/3 to give them a break from the shelter and to capture moments that will help them find forever families. On top of that Big Barker will be sending each dog home with a Big Barker bed!

If you’re interested in learning more or signing up to foster the pups, check out this link here. Take a look at the dogs who are heading out during the holidays!
