Wait… Who’s on a Big Barker Bed?

Although the Big Barker Community is made up mostly of dog owners and their pups, there are many other members of the community too. Did you know that Big Barker beds aren’t just for dogs? Just look at some of these other animals using a Big Barker bed.

1. Pigs
According to the Humane Society, “Studies have found they’re smarter than dogs and even 3-year-old children! In the wild, pigs form small groups that typically include a few sows and their piglets.”
Just like dogs, pet pigs may require additional support for their joints. In fact, pigs can develop arthritis just like dogs. Such symptoms can include lameness, stiffness, and unwillingness to stand according to the Pig Site.

2. Skunks
According to PBS, “Domesticated skunks are unique and sometimes rewarding pets, but they require a lot of specialized care” which makes them somewhat similar to our beloved dogs.

3. Birds
While joint health issues may not be so common for birds, at Big Barker we think it’s important to give all animals a supportive bed (or nest in some cases).

4. Cats
Like dogs, cats can suffer from joint problems including arthritis and degenerative joint disease (DJD). According to the VCA Animal Hospital, “The most common signs seen in cats with DJD are reluctance or inability to jump up or down from the furniture, general reluctance to move (often perceived as 'sleeping more'), increased irritability when touched or handled (especially around the affected joints), stiffness, and reluctance to sharpen the claws.” To help your cat who may be suffering from joint problems, you may want to consider raising their food dishes, having litter boxes available on each floor, or gently playing with them regularly (according to the VCA Animal Hospital).

5. People
We’ve had lots of customers talk about how they’ve snagged a nap on their dog’s Big Barker beds and realized that this dog bed was more comfortable than their human bed! Big Barker beds can easily support 300 pounds and ensure joints are being protected from the hard ground.
