Dog Saves Dog After Lab Alerts Owner to Golden Retriever Trapped in Sinkhole

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Wrigley, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever, has been named a hero after finding a Golden Retriever named Macy, who was trapped in a sinkhole. Wrigley alerted his owner of the trapped dog, who was then rescued by the Streator Fire Department.

“Kudos Streator Fire Department and to the doggo that alerted that Macy was in the hole!", Streator Animal Control wrote alongside a video of the rescue.

In a video of the rescue, the fire department can be seen hoisting the dog out of the hole as it continued to cave in. Streator Fire Chief Fred McClellan wrapped webbing around Macy to assist in the lift. He detailed the rescue, stating "If you can see me falling. It was because the ground started to break on my one foot underneath, so I stepped across the hole to grab and then it collapsed again. Luckily, my engineer, Tim Redd was able to finish pulling the dog out safely."

Following the rescue, the fire department posted a picture of Macy, covered in mud, proclaiming, “Macy is HOME!!!” Wrigley is being praised for finding the dog who was missing for close to 24 hours. "Wrigley very easily also could have fallen into the sinkhole, but luckily everything worked out!" said Streater Animal Control.

Macy was taken to the  Veterinarian, where luckily it was found that she did not sustain any life-threatening injuries. She is now at home resting.
