It all began on a quiet evening when Amber noticed posts on her doorbell camera app about two stray dogs wandering their neighborhood. Intrigued by the urgency of the situation, she and her son rushed outside. Once outside, Amber and her son found two stray Blue Heelers and began coaxing them into their backyard. “They just followed me to my backyard. It was crazy. I wasn’t expecting it to be that easy,” she recalled.
With the dogs safely secured in their fenced yard, Amber wasted no time. She reached out on local Facebook groups in hopes of locating the dogs' owners. Somebody from a local animal rescue quickly responded, offering to scan the dogs for microchips. Unfortunately, neither dog was chipped, leaving Amber and her son to care for them over the weekend while waiting for animal control to open.
As the weekend came to an end, Amber and her son had grown attached to the dogs, spending every moment caring for them. “It was really hard giving them up,” Amber said, reflecting on the emotional bond they formed. On Monday, Amber’s son gave the dogs big teary eyed hugs before boarding the school bus and Amber burst into tears when animal control picked up the dogs.
Once at animal control, they discovered one of the dogs had contracted parvovirus. The dog was taken to an animal hospital and was treated. Since both dogs had been in close contact, they each had to remain in quarantine, which delayed Amber’s plans.
“I kept checking in on them to see if they were doing okay,” she shared. Despite Amber’s efforts and the attention the dogs received on social media, no one came forward to claim them.
As fate would have it, Amber’s husband, who was away during this whirlwind, encouraged her plans to consider adopting one of the dogs. After discussions with the animal control staff, it was determined that the dogs would be adopted out separately as they did not appear to be bonded. With a deep love for animals and an eagerness to welcome a new best friend, Amber decided to adopt the Blue Heeler, later named Bingo.
The best surprise, however, was yet to come. Amber planned a special reveal for her son. “He could not believe it at first,” she laughed, recalling his shock when he saw Bingo again. “It was probably the best surprise ever that everyone was staying.”
Bingo quickly settled into his new family, fitting in perfectly with Amber’s two other dogs, Nash and Ranger. The joyful chaos of three dogs brought an abundance of love and laughter to their home.
