Surgeon Takes to the Skies to Save Rescue Dogs

A urologist from Buffalo, New York, has gained viral attention for his compassionate efforts in rescuing dogs from kill shelters. Dr. Brian Rambarran, the Buffalo-based surgeon, regularly uses his own plane to fly dogs between different shelters, playing a crucial role in their rescue. Rambarran first learned about the mission through a nonprofit organization called Pilots and Paws, which connects pilots with various shelters and rescue programs.

Each month, Rambarran picks up dogs, often transporting them from Noah’s Advocates for Animals in Asheville, North Carolina, to Nickel City Canine Rescue in Buffalo.

Nickel City Canine Rescue, a volunteer-based organization, relies heavily on volunteers and fosters to support their animals in need. Volunteers assist in various ways, including transporting dogs from vans or planes and taking them to events. Rambarran’s daughters also enjoy volunteering and helping to transport the dogs whenever they can. He believes in teaching them the value of volunteer work and its impact on the community.

For Rambarran, the most rewarding part of his rescue efforts is the heartwarming welcome he receives when he lands. He says the best thanks come in the form of puppy kisses—the sweet breath, soft fur, and little bellies are all the appreciation he needs.
