A good Samaritan, outside of Missouri, found a sweet dog lying in a pile of trash and knew they had to help. After contacting Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL), rescuers were sent out to save the dog.
Donna Lochmann, SRSL’s Chief Life Saving Officer, was the first of the team to spot the pup. “When we got there, she was still rummaging through the trash because she was hungry, and we could see that she was skinny,” Lochmann said.
Once the dog realized that Donna was there, she began to hide behind the can. Sensing that trust would be required to get the dog, she pulled out treats. “She was very receptive to the sausages,” Lochmann continued. “But when I knelt down and offered one to her, she went past the food and came right up to me.”
Rather than nibbling on the food, the dog made eye contact with Lochmann. “It was as if she was saying, ‘Are you here to help me?’” Lochmann said. A leash was placed around her and she was lead to the vehicle. The dog was soon at the rescue facility and started winning over the hearts of the staff.
Lochmann gave her the name Little Toes. “She was so sweet with everybody in the clinic,” Lochmann said. “She was pretty much hugging up on everybody.” She was only there a day and a half before she was on her way to a foster home. Now, she spends her time with her loving foster parents and dog sibling. Her friends at SRSL are happy too see this loving pup get the life she deserves.
