Dex’s bread and butter is tracking—he’s a very good tracking dog. Last year we got called to a township just to the north of us for a missing five-year-old who walked away from the house while the parents were there. After checking all over the house and the yard, they called us about 45 minutes after they realized the missing boy was gone. Fire and EMS were called to help with the location efforts, but we like to hold off on those folks so the area is not contaminated with the different scents and whatnot. We got there and Dex started tracking, and we ended up locating the boy about four miles from his house in the woods. There’s nothing better than finding a lost child and bringing him back to the parents. I’m a parent myself, so those are probably the most important ones to me.
