The World's Oldest Dog Turns 31!

Paw-ty time! After recently celebrating his 31st birthday, Bobi has become the world's oldest dog! His family planned a fun-filled birthday party in his home town of Conqueiros, Portugal.

His owner, Leonel Cost, hosted a "very traditional" Portuguese party with over 100 people. Bobi has been enjoying all the attention since Guiness World Records verified the world's oldest dog in February.

"We've had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi," he said. He is still in good health and was recently taken for a checkup as a precaution because of the potential stress of all the commotion.

"There were a lot of pictures taken and he had to get up and down many times," he said Leonel. "It wasn't easy for him." Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of Portuguese dog trained to guard livestock, according to his owner.

His age is showing with declined eye sight and difficulties walking, but he is still the same joyful dog as before. His owner says the longevity has been due to the "calm, peaceful environment" where he lives.

"Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world," Cost says.
