Paws of Honor: K9 Thor

The goal of Paws of Honor (POH) is to provide veterinary care and products at no charge for retired military and law enforcement K-9’s across America that have served our country, locally or globally.

Retired K-9’s deserve accessible, high quality veterinary care in return for their commitment and sacrifice for our country. The monetary burden associated with veterinary care should not fall on the shoulders of the officer/handler/owner once the K-9 has been decommissioned.

K9 Thor

K9 Thor is a retired Explosive Detection dog who worked for the United States Federal Government for almost six years.

Thor spent a majority of his career in Afghanistan, Iraq, and even did a short trip to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). He has done some pretty cool things in his career, for example, he sat next to a camel in KSA, placed first in the 2019 USPCA Region 3 Competition and was invited to the National USPCA Competition in New York.

Thor retired in July of 2021. He now enjoys playing with his three human sisters and cleaning up their crumbs, especially Goldfish and bananas. Thor loves to go on walks, swim at the beach, cuddle, and play in the snow (whenever we get snow in Virginia).

"He is a complete mama's boy and follows me around like my fourth child (even though my husband was his handler)," Thors mother said.

Now he goes to work with me, and I take him to as many Paws of Honor events as possible. We even flew to Kansas City for a conference thanks to Southwest Airlines...where we got to meet our Big Barker friends in person.
