Man Finds a Lost Baby Koala Hitching a Ride on His Golden Retriever’s Back
When Australian dog owner, Steve Lamplough, called his Golden Retriever, Denni, inside one afternoon, he expected her to come bounding up like usual. Instead, she strolled over calmly, with something small and fuzzy clinging to her back.
To Steve’s surprise, it wasn’t a stick, a toy, or anything Denni had found on one of her adventures. It was a baby koala.

Denni, a gentle nine-year-old who spends her days exploring her family’s five-acre property, had somehow become a safe ride for a lost joey. Steve guessed the little one had wandered too far from its mother and, in a moment of instinct, climbed onto Denni for warmth and security.
“I couldn’t believe it at first,” Steve said. “She just stood there, completely still, like she knew the baby needed her.”
After a few careful moments, Steve helped the joey off, watching as it scurried up a nearby tree. Not long after, the mother koala appeared, and the two were reunited.
It’s the kind of story that reminds you how special dogs truly are. Denni didn’t hesitate, didn’t bark, didn’t shy away, she simply offered quiet comfort. That’s what dogs do best.
