Healing Journey for Hawk: Brave Barkers

Hawk is on his way to healing on his journey with the Brave Barkers program!

Hawk is the second dog to be sponsored by Brave Barkers. Brave Barkers is a non-profit that funds surgeries and medical care for dogs with severe joint or mobility issues.

In this update, watch Hawk begin his healing journey!

Get to know Hawk:

Hawk is Brave Barkers grant recipient #2! Hawk is a 5-year-old Dutch Shepherd. He works in the Delaware Prison System in both patrol and narcotics detection and was trained at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center.

His handler has known him for so long that he knew something wasn't right when Hawk started to show signs of pain.

Hawk was taken to see Dr. Brunke at Veterinary Surgical Centers - VSC and it was determined that he would need an  injection of platelet rich plasma and synthetic joint fluid.

Hawk's Healing Journey Begins:

Hawk is receiving treatment by the amazing Dr. Brunke. Hawk is ready to get back to work doing a job he loves!

Hawk headed to see Dr. Brunke and their team. He was nervous, as you can see, but ready to begin finally feeling better.

Hawk needed to be sedated to receive a special injection of platelet rich plasma and synthetic joint fluid.

His handler/dad was by his side the whole time, especially since Hawk needs special handling when waking up from sedation.

"Canine Platelet Rich Plasma offers a safe and natural cell therapy to relieve the pain of joint disease or injury, promote healing and reduce recovery time using your dog’s own blood," -Jeff Mayo, DVM.

After his first injection, Hawk was up and about:

Please continue to watch Hawk on his journey back to pain free living!
