Here’s an amazing story for you today. Madera, an 11 year old Labrador lost its way in the Alaskan forest. She had run into the countryside when she was let out to go to the bathroom. Normally she returns, but on this day something must have distracted her and she was compelled to go out and either look for something or chase something.
But you see, this dog is also blind, and thus very quickly lost its way. Now, before you think that this was some sort of irresponsibility on the part of the owners, well…it’s really not. They let the dog out on their property, and for years she always promptly returned. It’s probably the same thing that many of us do with our own beloved dogs.
So on this day she didn’t return, and in fact she wouldn’t return for a number of days. Finally, as a neighbor was walking his own dog, Madera was attracted by the bell the dog wore around it’s neck, and in an amazing stroke of luck this dog found its way home.
As the neighbor discovered the dog, Madera’s owner tried to give him a reward, but instead he insisted it go towards the local dog shelter. What a great ending to an amazing story.
